In the 1840s, fast boats that took the shortest route between the Mississippi River and the Atlantic often docked on the shallow waters of Key West. Salvaging cargo on ships has become a lucrative business for two companies, one of which is led by an energetic young woman. Then, when the captain of a crashed ship was resting at her home, she fell in love with him. She went to Charleston and was very attractive to the man who was most likely to become the head of the captain's company, believing that she would be able to find the position he wanted for the captain on the company's first steamship.
